It looks like Joe Rogan has a friend in Jon Stewart, but sort of. The television personality and comedian defended Joe Rogan over his COVID-19 vaccine misinformation controversy. Here’s what he has to say.

Jon Stewart said this week that “canceling” Joe Rogan would be akin to banning Stewart from television for his opposition to the Iraq War in 2003. “The New York Times, right, was a giant purveyor of misinformation, and disinformation,” Stewart said of the newspaper’s editorial support for the Iraq war. “And that’s as vaunted a media organization as you can find, but there was no accountability for them.”

If that weren’t enough, Stewart also said that when he was very vocal about opposing the Iraq War in 2003, he was part of the celebrity minority. “Couldn’t I have gone down and fallen down this — if Viacom or Comedy Central had wanted to censor me — or had wanted to take me off the — look, I’m not owed a platform. Nobody is,” he said.

Stewart then added: “But my point is, these are shifting sands, and I think I get concerned with, well, who gets to decide?”

Meanwhile, Spotify responded to their Joe Rogan controversy with plans to add a content advisory to all podcasts that discuss COVID-19 and vaccines. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek announced updates to the platform’s policies, including the addition of content advisories for podcast episodes that discuss COVID-19.

“Personally, there are plenty of individuals and views on Spotify that I disagree with strongly. We know we have a critical role to play in supporting creator expression while balancing it with the safety of our users,” Ek said in a press release.  “In that role, it is important to me that we don’t take on the position of being content censor while also making sure that there are rules in place and consequences for those who violate them.” Rogan has a reported $100 million deal to license his podcast to the streamer.
