It’s no real surprise that the creator of the Sex and the City reboot “And Just Like That” has come out and said that there is simply no room for the character of Samantha Jones to return at this point.
Especially after the actress herself, Kim Catrall has come out and said that she has left Samantha behind for good and basically dragged the lead in the show, Sarah Jessica Parker, for all she was worth, saying of Parker that she “could have been nicer” and she didn’t know what her problem was and she never has. Search us, Kim, we’re wondering the same thing!
“And Just Like That” Creator Squashes Any Hope Of Possible Samantha Return
Samantha has “appeared” several times on the show due to the advent of text messaging and a rather larger order of flowers for Big’s funeral.
We have not actually seen her and the mentions of her have been brief and the reasoning behind her departure was pretty flimsy at best but Michael Patrick King says it best, “You can’t make an actress play a role.” and indeed you cannot, as much as we would love to have Samantha come back and inject her own special brand of humor into “And Just Like That” (trust me a lot of us would kill to have her back), Kim Catrall has moved on and is perfectly happy in a show on Hulu called “How I Met Your Father” a reboot of the comedy series “How I Met Your Mother” so it’s not like she’s twiddling her thumbs waiting on a call from AJLT producers.
This news comes just one day prior to the season finale for season 1 of AJLT, which has been met with some backlash, namely of the breakdown of the relationship between Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Steve Brady (David Eigenberg) and her new affair with nee non-binary character Che Rivera (Sarah Ramirez).
The creators defend that particular decision saying that it has nothing to do with Che but rather the fact that most relationships end up like Steve and Miranda’s and people are reacting strongly to that. We beg to differ, ahem. It looks like Samantha’s return will only be in our dreams. Stay tuned!!!
