You know you’ve done gone and messed it up when you get flack from Tyrion Lannister. Seriously though, Dinklage went on the WTF podcast with Marc Maron and had a go at the Disney execs for being progressive in one way and completely backward in another.

Because on one hand, they were proud to cast a latina actress as Snow White (hooray!) but on the other, Dinklage thought that the Disney remake might rely to heavily on stereotypes from the 1937 original. “You’re progressive in one way but still making that… backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together. Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? Guess I’m not loud enough.”

Peter Dinklage disses Disney’s new “Snow White” remake

The film, set for release in 2023, will have Rachael Zeigler (West Side Story) as Snow White, and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) as the Evil Queen. Dinklage went onto say, “All love and respect to those who thought that they were doing the right thing, but I’m just like ‘what are you doing’?” again, ouch.

Disney released a statement regarding Dinklage’s burn, saying that in order to avoid any harmful stereotypes that might have been created by the original 1937 film, that they have decided to take a completely different direction with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community.

Clearly, Dinklage was not asked to sit in on that panel. Which is a little bit odd considering his celebrity and the fact that he played the OG Dwarf character on hit HBO series Game of Thrones for 8 seasons, and also all the activism that he’s done for the condition over the years might, just might, have been a clue to Disney as to who to consult on how to do such a tale right but we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe, just maybe, they might end up doing things right before the actual release of the movie… we can hope.

Until then, it looks like some things just don’t translate out of animation well. Have we moved past Snow White as a culture? Stay tuned!!!
