‘Dance Moms’ star Abby Lee Miller has certainly had a rough go of it lately. The one-time director of the uber-exclusive Abbey Lee Dance Company turned polarizing reality star had a big fall from grace when a bankruptcy fraud conviction saw the outspoken Pennsylvanian head to the big house for 10 months.

However, it was a blood cancer diagnosis–Burkitt’s lymphoma–that almost took Miller down. She underwent life-saving spinal surgery is now wheelchair-bound much of the time.

Now Miller is heading back to the courts, but this time the law is very likely on her side.

Back in August 2020, Miller was staying at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Santa Monica. When wheeling herself into the bathroom of her hotel room, the back wheel of her chair got caught under the sliding bathroom door. As the 56 year old attempted to free the wheel, the sliding door was pulled from its track and crashed down on top of Miller.

According to court documents, the door weighed in excess of 300 pounds and pinned Miller, still in her chair, trapping her in the doorway for around 10 or so minutes.

Miller claims to have screamed for help and eventually two staff members came to her aid, lifting the door off her. The reality star was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

In the case files, Miller claims to still be undergoing physical therapy for the injuries she sustained to her head and shoulder.

If being pinned by a ridiculously heavy door (were they trying to keep the bathroom watertight?) wasn’t grounds enough for Miller to sue the hotel chain, she also claims that, due to her disability, she suffered more hardships during her long term stay at the hotel between March and October 2020.

Miller has said that the laundry room, pool, and gym areas were not wheelchair accessible, the hallways were often blocked by housekeeping carts and she was unable to open some public space doors (well, if they weigh three hundred pounds…)

Miller is seeking compensation of $8.5 million as she sues the hotel chain for negligence, emotional distress, discrimination, and false imprisonment.
