It’s the 20th anniversary of when ‘Smallville’ first appeared on television and 20 years of fans loving the show. Tom Welling personified the teenage and young adult Clark Kent for many people, and even reclaimed the role on television for a special CW event with ‘Flash’, ‘Supergirl’, and more!
While we may remember it as a defining era of television and Welling’s amazing performances, it wasn’t always a perfect idea, and Welling remembers how he was pitched the show and is amazed about how long the show lasted. Take a look at the clip below from Michael Rosenbaum’s (who portrayed Lex Luthor on ‘Smallville’) podcast, ‘Inside of You’.
“In honor of the upcoming 20th anniversary of Smallville, Tom Welling and I share stories and delve deeper into the behind the scenes moments of the show.”
Superman Actor Tom Welling Explains How He Was Pitched ‘Smallville’ And What It Became On Co-Star Michael Rosenbaum’s Podcast ‘Inside Of You’
Fans commented on the clip, showing support to not just Welling and Rosenbaum, but the entire cast saying, “I’m no actor but I imagine if you’re filming 22 Episodes a year there really isn’t time to make every scene a masterpiece, you just get the scene done and move on”, “I loved Smallville as soon as it premiered. Rosenbaum’s Lex Luthor rates , to me, among the top three interpretations of the character, along with John Cryer in Supergirl and Clancy Brown’s voicing of Luthor in Superman-The Animated Series. By the way, I really like that Indiana Jones-Raiders maquette off to the right.” and “Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum in my opinion were perfectly cast for their characters. Absolutely loved the series.”
A 10-year journey culminated in Clark Kent becoming Superman at the end of the show and many had said it was the perfect ending to the perfect show.
