A TikTok video has caused outrage after it showed people taking and posing for pictures at a 9/11 memorial in New York.
TikTok Video Sparks Outrage As People Pose For Photos At A 9/11 Memorial-‘This Makes Me So Mad’
The September 11th attacks forever changed the landscape of the world, given that many Americans lost their lives as a result. Not only did people die in the Twin Towers, but several wars were started as a result of this action.
Therefore, the last thing that people wanted to see was an attempt to disrespect the memories of those who had died. In the video here, we can see two people posing for photos at different parts of the memorial.
In one scene, a man is seen getting ready for a photo near a pool which had all the names of the people that had died written on it.
Given that the video looked more akin to that of a fashion shoot, there was a lot of discussion over whether such actions should have gone ahead, as well as the motivation behind it.
As a consequence, over 1.5 million people had watched the video. According to reports, security did intervene after people had started to notice what was going on.
The TikTok uploader stated the following: “Security chased them all within seconds! But, unfortunately, it is so common and so disrespectful to people trying to pay respect.”
The response on social media was one of huge condemnation. The majority of people felt that such actions were abhorrent especially given that many people do not have an opportunity to go to see the memorial despite being personally affected by the tragedy.
As such, they called on tougher action to be taken against similar types of behaviour in the future. One person wrote: “This makes me so mad! Why would anyone sit on there?!? I cannot with people.”
While another stated: “I can understand taking photos, but the dude sitting on their names draws the line.” Hopefully, this ends up being a lesson for anybody else who is considering doing a similar thing.
Such actions only go on to show the lack of sensitivity there is out there to the September 11th attacks.
