The remains of United Exec, Jake Cefolia were recently found in the woods and there has been a lot of confusion about what happened to him and why he was in the woods. His remains were found in the Waterfall Glen Forest preserve in Lemont, Illinois. This is about 25 miles outside of Chicago.

He was found hanging by a belt in a tree in the forest and so far, it does look like suicide. There are many rumors about why he would have done this, but it has now come up that he is under criminal investigation and that could be one of the many reasons for his disappearance.

    What Happened With Cefolia?

His ex-wife, Kristine Cefolia, is the person who had reported him missing back in August. He was supposed to pick up his teenager, twin daughters, but failed to do so. He ended up not returning her calls or texts and she began to get really worried. On August 8th, she called 911 and said, “Something’s just absolutely not right.”

Jake Cefolia Was In Hot Water Before Death

She didn’t hear from him for two days and that is when she just knew it was time to call the authorities. She said that this was completely out of character for him and he would always make time for his daughters.

Just a few hours after she had called 911, the police ended up finding his car at the Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve. The car had been abandoned and it seemed like it had been there for a few days. There was also some news that he was under investigation for criminal charges, but the police have yet to release that information as to what he had done.

Cefolia loved his job with the airline and wanted nothing more to travel and work with United. Even his friends said that when they would check in with him, nothing seemed out of the ordinary and he just seemed normal. Just a few days prior to his disappearance, he fly to San Francisco to make up with his girlfriend and make things right between the two of them. She said that the pandemic had led him to be very stressed and that he had started drinking a lot more. This worried her. On August 6th, he went back to Illinois and had dinner with his son. His son told police that he was very drunk when they were having dinner together. This concerned him greatly.

Many things led up to concern for him. The next day, he was supposed to work remotely, but never logged in to work. He also missed his appointment with his realtor who was selling his house for him. His ex-wife told police, “We’ve left multiple texts, messages – nothing. He fantasized about going off the grid.” In his home, police did find his phone and an Apple watch among his belongings.

There is still an open case about the criminal investigation and the family has hired a private investigator to try and figure out why this would happen to him.
