Some things just weren’t meant to be, right? There’s a new report that says Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter Lilibet Diana will not be christened in the Church of England.

This, despite countless reports that suggested the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were hoping to bring their family to England just so they could have the ceremony with Queen Elizabeth, who is yet to meet her great-granddaughter and namesake. Here’s what you need to know.

One source close to the situation told the Telegraph, “There will not be a christening in the UK. It is not happening” while another source also told the outlet that a UK baptism for the child appeared “highly unlikely.”

While the world is yet to see a photo of Lilibet Diana, who was born back in June, royal correspondent Neil Sean suggested that the Sussexes were probably waiting until her christening for her to make her world debut. But it looks like that’s not going to happen in the UK.

Sean put it this way, “One of the bigger problems that Meghan really encountered of later is that she wanted her daughter, Lilibet Diana, to be christened in the place she was married alongside her husband Prince Harry. And then the christening of her firstborn, Archie. But that came to a grinding halt. Both Harry and Meghan were very keen to make that return and make sure that christening happened, particularly in front of Her Majesty The Queen.”

He added, “Some people may say they’re just capitalising on their royal connection and why not? It’s how they make money now. But moving forward there was one person who basically decided there wasn’t an appetite for this and the person that seemingly is, so far, not willing to kiss and make up with his younger brother.”

So far Harry and Meghan have not made any comments about the matter.
