As they say, three is a crowd but in this situation here, it’s kind of an awkward crowd, seeing how one is someone’s long-gone mother. There’s a new report that suggests Princess Diana, who passed away back in 1997, is the “third wheel,” in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s marriage.
At least that’s what one royal biographer believes. Andrew Morton says that “all roads lead back to Diana” whenever it comes to Harry and Meghan as the Princess of Wales has certainly “shaped the couple’s world view.” Here’s what you need to know.

In a new column for the Mail on Sunday, Morton put it this way, “Today for Harry, and increasingly for his wife, all roads lead back to Diana. His mother’s cause-driven life and the tragic manner of her death has not only coloured Harry’s relationship with his family, and the wider public, it has shaped the couple’s world view.”
Morton added, “As the Sussexes embarked on their own journey together through Royal life, not a day went by without a reference, a memory or a decision that related in some way to Harry’s late mother.”
Well, it’s not like the Sussexes are denying this as even Prince Harry said during his engagement interview with Meghan that his late mother would always be with them on what he calls “this crazy journey.”
Morton, meanwhile, added, “But the ghost of Diana would loom over the lives of Prince Harry and his new wife in less happy ways, too, as time passed and as Meghan grappled with a set of challenges uncannily similar to those that once faced the mother-in-law she never met.”
Harry and Meghan cut the cord on their working relationship with the royal family back in January of 2020 and have since then started a new life for themselves and their family in California.
