That all seems to be in the past as Olivia Jade Giannulli is hoping to dance her way back into the heart’s of Americans everywhere – and maybe even some of her former sponsors – as she’s joined the cast for the upcoming season of “Dancing With The Stars.” And according to host Tyra Banks, Olivia is brave for doing so. Tyra Banks Defends Olivia Jade’s Decision To Join “Dancing With The Stars’
The host says that she defended her decision to cast the social media influencer simply because she “trusts” that Olivia had no idea what her parents were up to when they paid a hefty sum through the back door to get her into the University of Southern California.
Speaking to ET Online, Tyra put it this way: “I think Olivia is so brave. I think people don’t know her, they know what happened to her. She has said that she did not know about what was going on and it’s really sad, and it’s very hurtful when something publicly happens but you had nothing to do with it. So I trust that she says she didn’t know.”
Back in December 2020, Olivia opened up about the emotional trauma she’s endured since making headlines for her college admissions scandal.
“I felt so ashamed and embarrassed … although I didn’t really 100 percent understand what had just happened because there was a lot that, when I was applying, I was not fully aware of what was going on,” she told co-hosts Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris. “When I got home [from spring break], I just felt so ashamed.”
