And they usually have just so much to say, right? Well, apparently not this time around. Prince Charles’ ex-aid Michael Fawcett is dodging questions from the media in Britain after it was alleged that he was involved in a honors-for-cash scandal. Here’s what you need to know.
According to reports, Michael Fawcett, a former assistant valet to Charles, has temporarily stepped down from his role as chief executive of The Prince’s Foundation while an investigation into allegations about his conduct takes place. Fawcett is accused of using his position and influence to help Saudi businessman Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz obtain an honorary Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, according to the Sunday Times.

Fawcett was paid to coordinate the title and help Mahfouz receive a “golden visa,” through which he hoped to achieve UK citizenship and residency, the report alleges. Mahfouz has denied any wrongdoing, as has Prince Charles.
Yet, when he was asked by reporters on Monday morning whether he “secured honours for cash” or whether he “had any comments on the revelations in the newspaper over the last couple of days”, he remained silent.
Douglas Connell, chair of The Prince’s Foundation, confirmed an investigation was ongoing. He said: “Earlier today, Michael Fawcett offered to step down temporarily from active duties as chief executive of The Prince’s Foundation while the trustees’ investigation is ongoing.
The Prince’s Foundation has accepted this offer. Michael fully supports the ongoing investigation and has confirmed that he will assist the investigation in every way.”
Fawcett began his royal service in 1981 as a footman to the Queen. On Monday, Buckingham Palace released a statement that said: “The Prince of Wales has no knowledge of the alleged offer of honours or British citizenship on the basis of donation to his charities and fully supports the investigation now underway by The Prince’s Foundation.”
