Billy, for his part, is all aware of who Colton is after the former made an appearance on The Bachelor as a guest during one of the group dates. While he did strike up a friendship with Colton, he never suspected that the star was gay. But once the news did drop, he made sure that he was there to back him through the difficulties he was going through.

In an interview with Us Weekly, Billy said: “I don’t really know Colton well … [but] the day he came out, you know, I tweeted my support for him.” Nevertheless, the response from a subset of fans was anything but positive. They bashed Colton for what they perceived to be a lack of transparent behaviour.

This was in relation to his relationship with Cassie Randolph. Not only was Colton deceiving her by being gay, but his behaviour had overstepped the mark. Cassie had to file a restraining order against Colton because she had felt she was being harassed. And yet, Billy never sought to judge Colton.

He added: “I truly had no idea he was gay when I shotThe Bachelor. I don’t really watch The Bachelor… I never suspected he was gay, but you know, I’m happy for him. Everyone is on their own journey when it comes to coming out.”

And Colton’s story is going to hit the big screen very soon. He has signed a deal with Netflix in order to document his journey in realising he was gay. There is clearly a lot to cover in this documentary, including the timing of his reveal, and why he decided to pursue relationships with numerous women in spite of what we know now.

With that being said, Billy is looking forward to seeing how it plays out. He continued: “[I hope] he continues to evolve [into] a happy gay person.” Colton knows he has people by his side, and with time, his previous faults will surely be forgotten. But whether they are forgiven is anyone’s guess.
