The View’s ultra-conservative host, Meghan McCain has announced she will be vacating her seat at The View desk after four years on the show.

The daughter of the late Senator and two-time presidential candidate, John McCain, is no stranger to creating discord amongst hosts with verbal sparring and heated fireworks, making her both popular and extremely disliked, depending on which side of the conservative viewpoint you sit.

“I will be here another month, so if you still want to fight a little more, we have four more weeks,” McCain told her co-hosts, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines.

McCain is the conservative voice producers desperately sought after Elisabeth Hasselbeck left the panel in 2013. McCain has previously claimed she was close to tuning the offer down but her father encouraged her to take the job, saying it was too good an opportunity to pass up.

However, now the new mother has made the tough decision to give up her four year role. Like many television shows, The View changed formats throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, having the hosts appear remotely.

Now that the show has returned to the New York studio, McCain decided the commute from her Washington DC home was too much.

“This was not an easy decision,” she said. “It took a lot of thought and counsel and prayer.”

After McCain made her announcement, co-host Behar, who usually opposes McCain’s views the strongest, told the 36-year-old,  “I have really, really appreciated the fact that you were a formidable opponent in many ways and that you spoke your mind.”

She said that while the two women have had their on-air blow ups, they’ve also had some “interesting” drinking sessions together. “You’re no snowflake, Missy,” Behar finished.

ABC News made a statement saying they respected McCain’s decision, and thanked her for her “fierce determination and vast political knowledge and experience.”
