The View’s Meghan McCain Faces Backlash Over Controversial Comments On Gender And Life Chances

Meghan McCain has hit back at trolls, who have attacked her, after the former had claimed that life chances were dependent upon gender.

Meghan McCain Faces Backlash Over Her Comments On Gender And Life Chances

In an interview on The View, Meghan stated how gender was, unfortunately, the deciding factor in securing jobs. She said: “Even if people need money, even if people are qualified to get into Ivy Leagues, race and gender is more important than your skill qualifications [or] the content of your character. It is not what Martin Luther King, Jr. preached. I think this is a very, very slippery slope.”

Meghan, for her part, has argued that women have been underrepresented in the big corporate fields. And yet, this could easily be seen as an opportunist moment to act. How so? Well, given Meghan Markle’s recent bombshell interview on CBS, the United States’ public has received her very well by viewing her as standing up for women’s rights.

Not only that, but the formation of the Blacks Lives Matter movement has also led to calls for greater representation. And that is why she blasted the View for not being inclusive enough. She added: “The View is 25 years old next year. We’ve only had one Asian-American [person] cohost this show.” So what was the reaction from the broader public?

Members began to question whether this was simply a statement designed to provoke a reaction. After all, she is the daughter of former presidential candidate John McCain. Strangely enough, though, people questioned why she was not so vocal back then on this issue, especially since her father was running for President.

One fan hit out at Meghan via Twitter: “I wasn’t aware she had any qualifications other than being John McCain’s daughter,” while another even suggested that she should be replaced on the show: “This would be a great time for them to replace Meghan McCain with an Asian-American.” It will be interesting to see if there will be any further consequences to these comments.

Given that both Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne faced heavy criticism for their views, there is a chance this could blow into something else. We will have to see how this will play out. If you enjoyed reading this article, then please make sure you check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish. Please also visit TVRocker for all of the latest exciting news on all of your favourite daytime television soaps.
