Even though she’s always been an insider within the British Royal Family, Sarah Ferguson says that she couldn’t help but feel like an outsider, especially when she wasn’t invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s royal wedding back in 2011. Here’s what she has to say.
The Duchess of York’s name was not on the invite list to William and Kate’s wedding that year as it took place not too long after she was caught on camera promising a News of The World reporter access to her ex-husband Prince Andrew in exchange for $690,000.

Recalling the moment, Sarah told Town & Country in a new interview, “I didn’t think I was probably worthy to go to their wedding. I took myself to Thailand, actually, to be far away from it so that I could try and heal.”
And while she might have been snubbed for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s big day, Sarah Ferguson did get an invite to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018.
“It was very kind of them, and I can’t thank them enough for doing that because it was nerve-wracking,” she said, calling spectator’s cheers upon her arrival “quite extraordinary.”
Fergie also says that she chooses not to comment on Prince William and Prince Harry’s rift, out of respect for their late mother, Princess Diana. Instead, she said, “I believe that [Princess] Diana would be so proud of her boys… and she’d be so proud of her grandchildren.”
