You know that if the Los Angeles Times is calling you out, you’ve got a problem. The publication is pointing out that Prince William is quite the hypocrite, as he recently admitted to being “sickened” by all of the racism that three players of color on England’s national team have had to endure following England’s loss to Italy in the Euro 2020 final.
Yet, the Duke of Cambridge decided to back the royal family after Meghan Markle claimed that she endured royal racism of her own while she and Prince Harry were still living in London. Here’s what you need to know.
Back in March, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle admitted there were several conversations and “concerns” about how dark their son’s skin would be while the Duchess was still pregnant at the time.
Prince William Called Out For Choosing To Ignore Racism In His Own Family
But instead of showing any sign of support towards the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the royal family have done everything they can to show how diversified they are with their staff, while Prince William himself went on the record to say that they are very much “not a racist family.”
Fast-forward to the present day, and Prince William released a statement claiming that he is sickened by all the evidence of racism in English football and especially the three players of color on the English team who missed their shots during the penalty shootout with Italy on Sunday night at Wembley stadium.
The Duke of Cambridge wrote on Twitter, “I am sickened by the racist abuse aimed at England players after last night’s match. It is totally unacceptable that players have to endure this abhorrent behavior. It must stop now and all those involved should be held accountable.”
Many people have slammed Prince William for his response, by commenting on social media with, “Dear Prince William, where the f— have you been to defend your sister-in-law, Megan, The Duchess of Sussex against racism in the media & on social media…this screams performative,” along with, “Prince William wasn’t ‘Sickened’ by the racist abuse his sister in law suffered, in fact, he supported the family’s non response to defend her….”
