‘The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B)’ star Heather Tom (Thomas Forrester) was the big winner at 2020’s Daytime Emmy’s, taking home the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series statuette.
In what has become a tradition, the nominees for Outstanding Lead Actress get together, women supporting women, at a luncheon, hosted by the previous year’s winner.
‘The Bold and the Beautiful’: Heather Tom Carries on Outstanding Lead Actress Tradition of Women Supporting Women
Tom took the metaphoric torch with aplomb, hosting Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea Lawson, Y&R), Genie Francis (Laura Spencer, GH), Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis, GH), Finola Hughes (Anna Devane, GH) and fellow B&B’er Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy Forrester) for what turned out to be an ‘early bird dinner’, the only time the six busy actresses could all get together.
Yes, the women all have acting in common, and being at the top of their field to boot, but as Tom said, “My favorite thing about the ‘luncheon’ is to sit and hang with some really wonderful women. We don’t talk about the Emmys at all. We talk about kids and life and all kinds of stuff. It’s really nice.”
While thrilled to be spending time with all the nominees, Tom was especially excited to meet legendary Genie Francis for the first time ever. “In all these years, I never actually officially met her,” Tom marveled. “It was so funny because I’ve been doing [daytime] for decades and she has obviously been doing this for decades as well.” Tom went on to say she felt like she already new Francis through her work and gushed about getting to know the real Genie.
It wasn’t just a dinner, it was a dinner with swag. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences provided the six ladies with Kate Spade handbags filled with goodies including 4Roses Bourbon, which Tom’s husband, movie score composer James Achor was not mad about!
“It’s a quality gift bag through and through. Totally unexpected and so, so sweet,” Tom said. We’re pretty sure she didn’t get much bourbon out of the deal.
The Daytime Emmys, hosted by The Talk’s Sheryl Underwood airs on CBS on June 25.
Said Tom, “No matter who wins, I think the ladies would all agree that getting together and spending this time together as a group is one of the highlights of the Daytime Emmys for us.”
Doing things right, ladies, we love to see it. And good luck to you all!
