Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were worried that their firstborn son Archie Harrison would be bullied if he were given the title Early of Dumbarton. The royal couple reportedly rejected the title, as they were concerned that their son would be teased with “dumb” jokes. Read on for all that you need to know.
When Archie was born back in May of 2019, he didn’t receive a royal title. And now sources say that his parents, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, didn’t want to give him the name ‘Earl of Dumbarton’ because they were afraid that he would get teased by his peers at school or worse, by the media, too.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Worried Archie Would Be Bullied Over This Name
One source close to the situation told The Telegraph, “They didn’t like the idea of Archie being called the Earl of Dumbarton because it began with the word ‘dumb’ [and] they were worried about how that might look.”
Another insider said: “It wasn’t just Meghan who pointed out the potential pitfalls, it also bothered Harry.”
And while the Earl of Dumbarton wasn’t good enough for their son, it doesn’t look like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be getting a title at all for little Archie. That’s because Prince Charles wants to limit the number of key roles within the family in an effort to appease the British public.
Apparently, Prince Charles already told his son prince Harry he will change key documents to prevent Archie from inheriting the title, which would have once been his birthright. Little Archie is currently seventh in line for the throne.
“Harry and Meghan were told Archie would never be a prince, even when Charles became king,” the tabloid’s source said.
The news didn’t set well with both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The couple hinted to Oprah Winfrey in their seismic interview back in March that they believed their son wouldn’t get a title because of his mixed race.
