We all remember having to bid farewell far too early to former Glee cast member Naya Rivera when she died in a drowning accident in Lake Piru in California. Her young son, Josie Rivera was found sleeping on the boat and simply said that the last time he had seen his Mom, her hands were up and she was still in the water.
Her Dad, George Rivera, just revealed that on the day she drowned, they had an intense final phone call, most of which was him telling her not to get in the water. Rivera himself is an avid boater and knows his stuff, so when he saw that the conditions were really windy, he said he got a sick feeling in the pit of his stomach.
Naya Rivera’s Dad recalls final face-time
He said that the young star liked to bounce ideas off of him, and that she had really wanted to go swimming, but when she told her Dad that the boat didn’t have an anchor he told her that that was pretty much asking for the boat to drift away.
He said that their call ended up cutting out a few minutes later, so we’ll never truly know if she even heard her Dad’s last warning. However he did get a last screenshot of her, smiling underneath the boat canopy. He said that just a few hours later they would get the call that Naya was missing… what a haunting memory.
He said that even though it’s been a year, that this year has been a big blur of pain and that just now things are slowly starting to come into sharper focus, but he doesn’t know if he will ever find closure for what happened to his daughter.
Truly, when a tragedy like this happens, closure is a rare thing to find. lots of fans on twitter share his sentiment saying things like “This one still hurts.”, and they’re right, it does. We at DSD hope that the family of Naya Rivera can find some peace with her passing, our hearts continually go out to them. May her memory be a blessing.
