Does such a thing even exist? Prince Harry is not only being criticized speaking a little too candidly about his mental health issues (while seemingly throwing his father and other members of the royal family under the bus), but apparently, for having “too much therapy” as well.
In fact, Dr. Max Pemberton, an NHS psychiatrist, believes the Duke of Sussex might have had too much therapy, as he is apparently displaying some of those characteristics. Here’s what you need to know.
In a new post for The Daily Mail, Dr. Pemberton thinks that instead of constantly talking about his issues and what the royal family might have done right or wrong in the past, he thinks Harry should turn some of his personal difficulties into something positive instead of slamming members of the British Royal Family for his shortcomings.
Prince Harry Slammed For Having Too Much Therapy
Speaking to Dax Shepard on the Armchair Expert podcast, the Duke of Sussex accused Charles of handing him down a “cycle of genetic pain” and that “he treated me the way he was treated,” suggesting that Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth didn’t do such a good job in parenting, either.
But Dr. Pemberton says that Prince Harry shouldn’t be the poster child for the benefits of therapy, as he might have had too much of it.
He wrote, “He is starting to embody the characteristics of those who’ve had too much therapy — self-centered, self-obsessed, aggrieved and resentful. He says he’s talking about his troubles ‘to help other people.”
Dr. Pemberton added, “While a bit of self-obsession is acceptable inside a therapist’s office, it is unbecoming in public, especially from someone who has — and continues to have — a life of almost unparalleled luxury and privilege. He has also failed to understand that the modern obsession with getting everything off your chest, airing every grievance, isn’t helpful at all.”
Harry previously said that it was his wife Meghan Markle who encouraged him to go to therapy. He said, “She saw it. She saw it straight away. She could tell that I was hurting and that some of the stuff that was out of my control was making me really angry. It would make my blood boil. Prior to meeting Meghan, it was very much a case of — certainly connected to the media — that anger and frustration of, ‘This is so unjust.’ Not just about me, but about all the stuff I was seeing.”
