Prince Harry and Meghan Markle can always count on Oprah Winfrey to defend them, especially since they certainly can’t count on their closest family members to do the same.
The Queen of All Media went on the record to defend the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after critics went after them for apparently wanting privacy but at the same time doing tell-all interviews about their miserable lives as royals. Here’s what you need to know.
While promoting the new documentary series, The Me You Can’t See, Oprah defended Harry and Meghan’s request for privacy by explaining that it doesn’t mean they still have to remain silent.

“You know, I ask for privacy, and I’m talking all the time,” she continued. “So, I think being able to have a life that you are not intruded upon by photographers or people flying overhead or invading your life is what every person wants and deserves — to not to be intruded and invaded upon. That’s what people are missing.”
Oprah also said that both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had no regrets about the interview they did with her back in March in which they suggested there was a royal racist behind closed doors.
Meghan also said that she felt suicidal during her time as a royal while Harry told the world that his father had cut him off, both financially and emotionally.
“I understood what had happened to them, and I wanted the rest of the world to come away being able to answer the question, ‘Why did they leave?’” Oprah said. “And I think by the time that interview was done, people understood.”
In The Me You Can’t See, Harry opened up about Meghan and how she told him that she was suicidal.
“The scariest thing for her was her clarity of thought. She hadn’t lost it — she wasn’t crazy or self-medicating, be it through pills or alcohol, she was absolutely sober,” he said. “She was completely sane, yet in the quiet of night, these thoughts woke her up. The thing that stopped her from seeing it through was how unfair it would be on me after everything that had happened to my mum and to now be put in the position of losing another woman in my life with a baby inside her, our baby.”
