Mark Wahlberg looks like a completely different person on set for his new movie ‘Father Stu’. The cut and buff action movie star was seen in a fat suit and looking heavier in Los Angeles on Friday.
The new photos show the 49-year-old, who has gained around 20 points for his latest role as a boxer turned priest. It’s a mixture of cosmetics and actual weight gain.
Wahlberg has been open about his weight gain for the role, sharing several updates about it so far. On May 1st, Wahlberg wrote that he was up about 20 pounds. To help him gain weight quickly, the former model started eating 7,000 calories a day thanks to a custom meal plan by his chef.
Mark Wahlberg Is Unrecognizable On Set Of His New Film ‘Father Stu’
‘Father Stu’ is a passion project Wahlberg has been working on for six years according to The Hollywood Reporter. Mel Gibson will co-star in the film, with his longtime partner, Rosalind Ross making her directorial debut with the biopic.
It tells the story of a real-life Father Stuart Long from Helena, Montana. The former boxer turned priest excelled as a boxer, winning the 1985 Golden Gloves heavyweight title in the state of Montana.
Unfortunately, his career in boxing was cut short after Long had to have reconstructive jaw surgery in the late 1980s’.
This is a big switch for Wahlberg who is typically in action and comedy films. While he’s done drama, this is a new look for the singer-turned actor and we hope that he can pull it off. It’ll be interesting to see how he does when he’s out of his element.
