While it was a day of mourning, today was also the first time Prince Harry has been back to visit his family since the bombshell interview with his wife, Meghan Markle and Oprah Winfrey, a little over a months ago.
The somber service, planned out by Prince Philip himself, saw Harry reunited with his father, Prince Charles and brother, Prince William. As the family took the ’The long walk’ behind the military green jeep Prince Philip designed to be his hearse, Harry and William walked with cousin, Princess Anne’s son, Peter between them.
Harry and William seen speaking following Prince Philip’s funeral
Inside St George’s Chapel the brothers sat on opposite sides of the church. All family members were separated due to Covid restrictions. The Queen, like Harry, sat alone.
However, as the family left the church, Harry was seen walking with William and wife, Kate Middleton. The three were chatting.
Prince Harry, who wore his military medals earned on tours of duty in Afghanistan to his grandfather’s funeral, has been candid about the strained relationship with his brother and heir to the throne, William. He has acknowledged that “the relationship is ‘space’ at the moment” and that “time heals all things, hopefully”.
Prince William, who also wore the medals he earned from flying helicopters for the RAF Search and Rescue had confirmed the rift between the brothers before Harry and Meghan sat down with Oprah Winfrey.
Harry has been self-isolating at Frogmore Cottage since arriving in the UK. The Duchess of Sussex and their almost 2-year old son, Archie did not accompany Harry to the UK for the funeral as the Duchess is in her third trimester of her second pregnancy and was advised against flying by her doctors.
Meghan did, however, send a hand written note and a wreath for Prince Philip who she said had welcomed her into the family.
