A new series based on the 2005 film ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is now in the works. The new series is set to star ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ co-stars Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
The news was shared on IGN’s Instagram page, though it’s already receiving quite a bit of backlash. People commented that it was lazy to rewrite an existing film and that they wouldn’t want anything of the sort without the original stars.

Some of the actual comments on the post got pretty critical, “Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are the one and only Mr & Mrs. smith”, “But why?”, “They were a cringe couple in Solo”, “If it ain’t Brad & Angelina, I dont want it.” and “Nah that sounds lame af, stop piggy backing off other ideas it never works”.
The general consensus, not just with this series, but with most that are based on films or other products don’t generally do well. While there are exceptions, a majority of the time it does seem like a quick cash grab and typically doesn’t hold up well next to the original product.
While Glover and Waller-Bridge may be good actors, we can’t imagine they’ll hold a candle to Pitt and Jolie. Of course, we shouldn’t judge anything before we see it, for all we know this could turn out great. Though from the first announcement, it looks like fans are down on it before giving it a chance.
