It looks like whining to the universe really helps your cause, because even though famed TikTok creator Charli D’Amelio lost 1M followers last week in a backlash surrounding the D’Amelio family channel in their video with James Charles entitled “Dinner with the D’Amelios” where she and her sister Dixie D’Amelio proceeded to show off their absurdly horrific table manners when they vomited up the dishes prepared by their own personal chef.
(You heard that right, they have a personal chef… in a pandemic… and the parents were there the entire time… yeah.) As it turns out, the chef was a personal family friend, Aaron May, and he was apparently in on the joke, encouraging the girls to try snails off-camera, but the audience wasn’t buying it, which resulted in Charli losing a lot of her followers.
Charli D’Amelio hits 100M followers
However it looks like she’s bounced back with 6M more in no time flat! So what’s her secret? Well, we really don’t have any idea, but since she and her sister Dixie have been receiving a lot of press lately, maybe more people were curious about her than they were disgusted by her lack of manners.
I mean, she is just 16, and though yes she should know better, right now the majority of the blame should fall squarely on her parents for letting her and her sister act that way on-camera and potentially embarrass their friend. But that’s not the issue at hand here.
The issue is how on earth she lost 1 million but gained 6 million more followers in just a few days. Maybe some of her audience who had previously abandoned her follower back again, you never know, that does happen to the fickle among us (here’s looking at you, geminis!), but there is another possibility that’s a little scarier and that is… hate watchers.
Sometimes, people will follow people on the internet simply to watch them fail, and we all know it’s true. It’s only natural to feel a sense of Schadenfruede when you see a fellow human being having a worse time of it than you are (Avenue Q did an entire song about this, youtube it sometime), so Charli may think that she’s on top of the world right now, with 100M followers, but… I hope she just didn’t gain herself 6 million hate watchers. Then again, it’s the internet. Anything can happen. Stay tuned!!!
