TLC ‘Doubling Down with the Derricos’ spoilers reveal that it’s not often you hear a Mom say that she loves doing homework with her kids, but it’s not often that you meet a Mom like Karen Derrico every day. The Matriarch of the Derrico clan has given birth to 14 (count ‘em!), 14 children and she still finds time to help her children with their homework every day.

I’m not even kidding. This Mom is so dedicated to her children receiving the right kind of education that even being pregnant with twins and in the hospital on bed rest did not prevent her from helping her little ones with their daily homework.

She smiled as she said that when she was younger you could not have paid her to like doing homework, but she says that now, it gives her a chance to bond with her children and to keep up with how they’re doing in school.

From what I’ve seen, a lot of the other Moms who have big families (at least the ones who are televised) homeschool their kids and you could say that they’re just as involved but it takes a certain amount of dedication to send your kids off a regular school and keep up with that many different curriculums for multiple children. I’m impressed.

There’s also the fact of the matter that right now she is heavily pregnant with triplets, on bedrest, and does not have an appetite that makes this all the more a labor of love. I felt for her, all of the little kids expecting her to help them with their homework and she has to keep up with all of the different sets of knowledge. “Pregnancy brain”? What pregnancy brain, you can’t have that excuse when you have that many children, obviously.

Yes, arguably she does have help. She has a loving supportive husband and a loving supportive Mother-in-Law who’s willing to step in and help her, but the homework thing looks like a Mom-specific job that Karen takes pride in, and she does so with joy.

She says its hard being away from her children and we feel for her because not only does she have to be away from her children but she has to be away from her children and be subject to icky hospital food – I felt for her, it sucks! Fortunately it looks like all of that is a temporary measure though, we can’t wait to see more from this family. Stay tuned!!!
