The WWE has a habit of trying to bring back past superstars to try and recover their glory years. It has often been a cause for concern for fans, as this has often been a plan to address a dip in ratings rather than actually build up a new star and try and get them over.

There have been successful returns in the past, but not all of them work out how the WWE had planned. These are some of the returns that have happened over the past 20 years that haven’t worked out as planned.

    WWE News: Batista

Batista will always hold a special play in the heart of fans that grew up watching the WWE in the late 00s, and when it was revealed that the Animal would be returning to the company in 2014, there was great excitement.

However, fans quickly cottoned on to the plan for Batista as it was reported that he would be the man to take the WWE Championship off Randy Orton at WrestleMania. The plan was for Batista to win the Royal Rumble and then defeat Orton. However, fans quickly rejected these plans as the ‘Yes Movement’ was in full swing and there was a desire to see Daniel Bryan finally get his opportunity.

Obviously, the plans changed at Bryan got his moment and the plan was ended. However, there was still enjoyable moments throughout his run, as Evolution reformed and had some huge battles against The Shield.

    WWE News: Shawn Michaels

The discussion centering around whether fans wanted to see Shawn Michaels wrestle again or not was a contentious one. Many fans were happy that Michaels decided to walk away at his peak as it assured that his legacy as in tact. However, in 2018, he would end those hopes as he would step foot in a ring again at Crown Jewel.

The match was one of the worst in WWE history, as it was evident that none of the four men in the match were anywhere near their best. Add to that Triple H getting injured mid-way through, the main event was a car crash and the disappointment could be seen on the faces of all the superstars at the end.

    WWE News: Kevin Nash

Kevin Nash re-emerged in WWE in 2011 to get involved in one of the most entertaining storylines in the company at the time. Fans still question why Nash was involved with CM Punk and Triple H, as it made little sense and the narrative was a little messy.

Nash’s return overcomplicated a feud that was actually very easy to tell and arguably ruined the hottest story that was going on in WWE at the time.
