Sia Furler says that she stopped former Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler from boarding a plane with Hollywood producer and alleged sexual predator Harvey Weinstein when she was just 11 years old. The hit maker says that she felt very protective over the pint-sized dancer after she appeared as a mini-me version of the singer in her music videos. Here’s what she has to say.

In an interview with the Zach Sang Show, Sia explained that she knew something just wasn’t right with Harvey Weinstein and that’s why she sprung to action when she found out that Maddie would be hopping on a plane with Harvey Weinstein to talk about future film opportunities.

Sia said, “I felt just extreme compulsion to protect her and yet the irony is that I didn’t want to be famous and I threw this child into the spotlight and she would say to me, ‘Don’t be silly — I was already famous and I wanted to be famous.'”  Sia continued, “And I say, ‘And you know it can stop at any time right? If you want it to stop, I can make it stop. You can just go back to being a normal person again.'”

However, she said that Maddie, who is now a teen, was determined to be famous, while Sia was determined to be just as cautious with her. “I thought a good way I can keep her safe is just keep making projects for her and therefore most of the time we’re working together,” Sia said. “I kept her off a plane that Harvey Weinstein tried to get her on.” She added: “When he invited her, I told [Maddie’s mom] Melissa, I just said, ‘Please don’t, do not do that, do not do that, do not do that.'” Harvey Weinstein has since been found guilty of rape and sexual assault and is serving a 23-year prison sentence.
