Recently the youtube channel 8 Passengers got some major heat for a now deleted video called “What we haven’t told you” where they detailed the punishment of their 15 year old son, for pranking his 8 year old brother. It would seem, that just like older brothers are prone to do, their eldest son told their 8 year old that they were going on a trip to Disneyland and made him get ready, pack his bags and everything and then basically pulled a “Gotcha!” and told him that they weren’t, also there was another time in which he left his little brother hanging on the edge of their backyard basketball hoop for 3 minutes. Of course that made Mama Ruby mad. Because really, what Mom in their right mind lets their 8 year old get pranked like that and let’s the perpetrator get away with it? No one.
Okay so you’d think that maybe all of the eldest son’s video games have been taken away for a month or that he’s deprived of his phone or internet for awhile, that’s an entirely reasonable punishment and I could see it. But no, the Franke family likes to do things hard core, it looks like! The Mom Ruby, proudly announced that as punishment that Chad (oldest son) received was depriving him of a bedroom and a bed for the last… 7 months! Instead of being able to sleep in his room on his bed like a normal teenager, for the past 7 months poor Chad has been sleeping on the floor of the living room in a beanbag chair.
Youtube channel: Militant 8 Passengers Mom gets backlash
My back hurts for this kid just thinking about it! The punishment does not fit the crime! He just pranked his little brother, he didn’t try and murder him! (As far as I know he didn’t string him up on the basketball hoop, the 8 year old simply caught air and was left hanging without a way for someone to help him down. That’s a kid thing to do.) But no, the Mom decided that as punishment for not appreciating what he had, he would go without a bed for 7 months. I don’t know about you but I find that pretty extreme, even POW’s are given beds. They may not be very comfortable beds and they’re usually subject to sleep deprivation but they are given beds. Death row inmates have beds. So… why does this Mom have a heart?
This is not the first time Ruby Franke has punished her kids in an extreme manner. She took her eldest daughter’s phone away and has openly admitted that she’s probably never getting it back. Chad, the eldest son, has not had a phone in about a year. This seems really counterintuitive for safety reasons. Kids need phone nowadays. The kids have complained to their Mom that they have no friends and they don’t even know how to contact them. I think for anyone with teenage children, that’s pretty sad.
As far as I know, this isn’t a Plathville type deal where they have limited technology for religious reasons, so why would this Mom deprive her children of something that is now deemed as kind of fundamental? You old-timers are going to say “Back in my day we didn’t have cell phones and it didn’t kill me! Kids are glued to their phones these days they need to look you in the eye when you talk to them!” yes Grandpa, us millennials are well aware that you are threatened by the existence of that little electronic device. But seriously, why would she do that? Does she just need control or is she afraid of one of the oldest children calling CPS on her?
I hate to tell her but if one of them is determined enough, CPS might get involved anyway. There is always walking to the neighbors house to get help or calling 911 from a neighbor’s house. Heck, even the family computer could be used to call CPS nowadays with the advent of google voice and skype, provided you know the correct numbers to call. Gone are the days of payphones but there is still a myriad of ways that CPS could get involved and considering she shares her life on social media she’s not exactly living in little house on the prairie.
She has started deleting videos from her channel that detail punishments including when she deprived her 5 year old daughter of food. She said the teacher called her and told her that her 5 year old didn’t have a lunch. She went on to say that that was the child’s fault because she forgot to pack her lunch. She also went on to say that she hoped the teacher did not give her anything to eat and that she hoped none of the other children shared their food with her because her daughter needed to be taught a lesson and learn to pack her own lunch. I would say that that’s pretty hardcore for even most North Korean Moms! Will Ruby Franke let up on her kids or is this story going to become more of a trainwreck than it already is? Stay tuned!
