Y&R, B&B, GH and DOOL News tell that people going back to work and yes, families headed to parks and beaches to enjoy the warm weather, that means there will be less people indoors watching daytime television and more people doing what they did before the coronavirus pandemic. During the first few weeks of the coronavirus lockdown, the daytime television industry enjoyed a surge in ratings, as many fans tuned in to catch up on their favorite soaps. However, that surge has leveled back down to the soap world’s pre-pandemic numbers, which means there has been less and less interest in daytime television. In order for the soap world to see another ratings resurgence, one thing has to happen: fans need to see new episodes. Here’s what you need to know.
With the state of California slowly, but surely opening up again reports have indicated that soaps like ‘Bold and the Beautiful’ are already planning to head back to the studios as early as June. So far the producers of ‘Young and the Restless’ and ‘General Hospital’ have made no comments as to when they will kickstart production again while ‘Days of Our Lives’ is the lone soap that has enough episodes to last them well into the fall months.
Y&R, B&B, GH and DOOL News: New Episodes Needed For A Ratings Resurgence In Time For The Summer
While ‘Bold and the Beautiful’ and ‘Young and the Restless’ have managed to stay in the ratings game with their classic episodes, there’s speculation that fans will tune out more than in unless new material begins to air again.
Many comments from social media and soap fans have lately included, “So much for a boost on any show. Summer is officially here and people are returning to their jobs because of restrictions being lifted. Expect new lows across the board,” along with, “As the ratings keep proving loud and clear, nobody except the most die-hard Days fans care one iota about that, and even that number surely keeps slipping. Simply put the only way soaps are going to survive is if they get back to work again.”
Another fan put it this way, “Soaps aren’t going anywhere anytime soon it looked kind of bleak for the genre 10 years ago but ever since they’ve been at 4 soaps they’ve been doing well. People love the classics but at the same time they still want fresh and new storylines. Here’s hoping we get to see them again real soon.”
