Netflix released their latest binge-worthy reality show on Friday night, and it has quickly engaged fans on social media with many indicating that it could be better than the show that it shares many similarities with- Love Island. In total, there are eight episodes for fans to work their way through, but in truth, you may just need to make a day of it because there is no switching it off once you start playing the first episode.
The show features ten singletons and encourages them to make more meaningful relationships with people of the opposite sex. And then, you add in the decisive factor that makes it must-watch- contestants cannot kiss or have any sexual contact with anyone else in the retreat. Breaking of the rules means financial punishment, with money deducted from the prize fund at the end.
Netflix’s Too Hot To Handle: International Feel To The Series
One of the big differences between the Netflix show and Love Island is the fact that there is an international feel to the show. There are contestants from the United States, Canada, Australia and England taking part, which adds to a dynamic that makes for a comedic element. The relationships that are formed immediately centre around Australian Harry Jowsey and Canadian Francesca Farago, while the American couple of Sharron Townsend and Rhonda Paul.
Some of the couples have trouble finding a relationship spark, but that doesn’t stop viewers from seeing them grow as the series develops. Essex girl Chloe Veitch is hugely loveable and her one-liners are bound to leave viewers in stitches. Matthew Smith and his relationship with the electronically-controlled host Lana is another funny tit-bit that will keep viewers hooked; as well as the fact that he looks like Jesus.
Netflix’s Too Hot To Handle: Money Over Lust?
Kelz Dyke gives himself the name of the accountant and is control of ensuring that the group don’t lose too much money, something that he ensures he leads by example with by declining the offer of temptation. There are a lot of entertaining characters in the show with David Birtwistle, Nicole O’Brien and Bryce Hirschberg also becoming fan favourites.
The one aspect that does let it down slightly compared to Love Island is the narrator. Iain Sterling ensures that Love Island stands out from the crowd, while Desiree Burch doesn’t offer nearly the same comedy element. However, that is just a small matter from an otherwise addictive and welcome addition to the Netflix catalogue.
