EastEnders spoilers are set to break new ground over the coming months, as they have revealed that they are set to introduce the soap’s first-ever deaf character. The news comes after Ben Mitchell’s loss of hearing, and the new character will be introduced to help him come to terms with his new life.

The characters name that will be introduced is Frankie, and she will be played by Rose Ayling-Ellis. She will make her debut on the soap this week as the rest of Walford are still reacting from the shocking scenes that aired last week surrounding Dennis Rickman.

EastEnders News: Ben’s Hearing Getting Worse

Fans were shocked last week as Ben was dragged out of the Thames looking disorientated after he was now partially deaf. The news will come as a shock to fans as it is revealed that the loss of hearing will be down to a head injury that he sustained during the boat party.

Viewers will be introduced to Frankie this week, and she will immediately be a breath of fresh air. Callum Highway will introduce her to him, and he will be pleasantly surprised with how much she will help him over the coming months. The bosses at the soap have revealed that the story will highlight the issues that deaf people go through.

EastEnders News: Sign Language Used On Soap

The news was also met with a further announcement that Frankie will use sign language to communicate with Ben. This will also be the first time that this has been used on the soap. One of the soap’s writers Charlie Swinbourne also revealed that he was a driving force behind the story, as he wanted to highlight precisely what it is like to be deaf.

He revealed that the soap have been working alongside National Deaf Children’s Society on the upcoming scenes, while he also announced that he would be taking a lot of the upcoming story from his own life. Fans will have to watch the scenes when they air this week.
