EastEnders spoilers finds that it’s a day that fans have been dreading for a while now, but it was finally revealed today that June Brown would be leaving the soap for good. Brown has played the role of Dot Cotton for the past 35 years, but the 95-year-old has now announced that she won’t be returning to Walford.

The chain-smoking character had become an institution on the soap, but fans began to fear at the end of last month that we had seen the last of her. She revealed to Sonia Fowler in January that was leaving Walford to live in Ireland. The decision came after Sonia had stolen thousands off Dot.

    EastEnders News: Dot’s First Appearance

Dot’s very first appearance on the soap came shortly after EastEnders began in 1985. She was an integral part of the soap, and one that will never be replaced. During her career with EastEnders, she only took two breaks. One came between 1993 and 1997, while she also took a year off in 2012 so that she could write her autobiography.

She broke the news when she was speaking for former co-star Rani Singh. She admitted that she had been mourning the character as it feels like she has lost a part of her. Brown admitted that she knew that she wouldn’t be returning to play Dot soon after shooting her final scenes. But, fans have already been posting messages on social media demanding that she is given a fitting send-off.

    EastEnders News: Fans Demand Send-Off

Dot was an important role for EastEnders throughout her career, and that has led to a lot of messages on social media demanding that she return for one final episode where she can be celebrated. One fan on Twitter said: “So sad to see Dot has left EastEnders. Hopefully, she will return for a one-off special.”

Another post on social media said: “Disappointed that Dot wasn’t given a fitting send-off. She is a legend.” However, any hopes of a potential return could be dashed after Brown has admitted that she wouldn’t be against her character being killed off. Fans will have to continue watching to see if there are any references to Dot over the coming weeks.
