Netflix's 'October Faction' Releases January 23 - A New Kind Of Monster Hunter

When I first saw the title, October Faction I was as curious as you probably were. It’s not often that we get something new and exciting. Over the last week, Netflix has released some pretty exciting trailers for new series based on graphic novels. October Faction is one of these. So what is this about and why should you be excited for it, aside from it being something different? Well, according to a summary on Wikipedia, “October Faction follows the story of “globetrotting monster hunters Fred and Deloris Allen who, after the death of Fred’s father, return to their hometown in upstate New York with their teenage children Geoff and Viv. As the family adjusts, Fred and Deloris must hide their identities as members of a secret organization, and our heroes quickly discover that their new small-town setting isn’t as idyllic as it seems.”. The trailer is ambiguous, funny, and even frightening at moments, but these are the key ingredients for Netflix. It says a lot about the show without giving too much away and hides most of the monsters.

Netflix recently announced its adaptation of Locke & Key as well. What’s interesting about these two properties is they are both graphic novels published by the same company, IDW. It seems Netflix may have found its creative well to pull projects from. This is interesting and great in itself because it allows smaller projects to get adaptations. IDW has had success before with its properties, most notably 2007’s 30 Days of Night starring Josh Hartnett. With Netflix now reaching its hand into the cookie jar, we could see new series that many may not be aware of.

The Graphic Novel By Steve Niles & Damien Worm

The October Faction #1 was suitably released on October 22, 2014. It’s a newer graphic novel and is still ongoing with its adventures. Each issue is available for only one to three dollars and has its own unique story following the Allan family, that consists of a retired monster-hunter, a thrill-killer, a witch and a warlock. Thankfully, Netflix has the first season ready. It will consist of 10 episodes but it is unclear if it will be a perfect pull from the graphic novels or take some certain liberties with the story. While it is probably expected it will take some new turns, the story is one you don’t want to miss! Catch October Faction this month! January 23, only on Netflix!
