It’s been over two decades since ‘Law & Order: SVU’ first premiered! While the focus of the other shows in the `Law & Order’ franchise largely deal with murder cases, ‘Law & Order: SVU’ dealt with cases like rape. It was difficult at times to watch, because of the basis. Typically, they would not hold anything back and not only told tough stories but raised awareness at the same time.
‘Law & Order: SVU’ starred Christopher Meloni (Elliot Stabler) and Mariska Hargitay (Olivia Benson) as partners who investigated these crimes. Also starring Dann Florek (Donald Cragen), Richard Belzer (John Munch), B.D. Wong (George Huang), and Ice-T (Odafin “Fin” Tutuola).
‘Law & Order: SVU’ has been awarded numerous accolades throughout the years, and has even surpassed the original ‘Law & Order’ series in terms of episodes. It’s been widely popular the last twenty years and continues to this day with Mariska Hargitay.

Christopher Meloni Talks About His Chemistry With Mariska Hargitay – How He Landed The Job On NBC’s ‘Law & Order: SVU’
In a recent interview, released on ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ YouTube channel we got to hear from the dynamic duo of Meloni and Hargitay. They discussed what it was like when they first met each other and Meloni’s casting process.
Meloni describes his first audition as perfect. He auditioned for creator Dick Wolf himself and was feeling very confident he has crushed it. However, after about a month of not hearing anything from the creators, he thought he was out. He and his wife decided to take a vacation to Hawaii, however, it was cut short. Thankfully, it was good news! The creators of the show wanted him to turn around and hop a flight to New York! They had found their Elliot Stabler!
Instant Chemistry Between Meloni And Hargitay!
Hargitay and Meloni both describe their chemistry as instantaneous. Hargitay describes it as, “Chemistry, trust, comfort, and all good.” They seemed to know from the get-go they were the ones for the job and we all are thankful it happened.
Together, they performed perfectly as Benson and Stabler. They gave us twelve years of on-screen magic, until Meloni’s departure from the show. However, Hargitay has continued on and created her own path. Though, we all want a reunion before the show’s finale. It’s always possible that Meloni could return, even if only for a few “guest” appearances.
