Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’: Episode Seven Review: The Timeline, Ciri's Power & The Mages CouncilNetflix’s ‘The Witcher’ spoilers find that today is the day we’ve been waiting for! The release of Netflix’s The Witcher is here. It has already been nothing short of glorious. In episode seven of the series, we finally get the timeline together. Ciri is showing more of her power, and Yennefer reconciles with Tissaia to battle against Nilfgaard. This was another excellent episode and picks up with more of the overall story after episode six’s dragon adventure.

Perhaps the biggest thing about episode seven is the convergence of the timeline and the explanation of episode one. In the first episode of The Witcher, we meet Cintra and Queen Calanthe moments before an epic battle against Nilfgaard. Mostly, we see this from Princess Ciri’s perspective as Calanthe comes back injured and is whispering to Mousesack. In the first episode, we’re completely unaware of what’s going on other than Ciri must find Geralt of Rivia, and thus we are thrust into the adventure. Little did we know, Geralt was in the castles keep the whole time!

    ‘The Witcher’ – Geralt’s Imprisonment

Little did we know, Geralt has been shackled underneath the Cintran castle for a few years. When we last left Geralt after the dragon fight the last episode he was on his way to Cintra to claim his law of surprise and protect young Ciri. Queen Calanthe is a tough cookie however and wasn’t willing to give up Ciri, the only part of her daughter she has left.

Calanthe asks Geralt to leave multiple times, but he isn’t that easy to persuade either. After finally being pushed out of the castle, the King tells him not to come back. However, Geralt tells him that he will, of course, have to return if Ciri is in trouble. Cintra is not willing to have the witcher come back for Ciri, thus imprisoning him.

In the very first episode, we see the Nilgaardian attack on Cintra and the buildup to Ciri having to find Geralt. If only he had just stayed put in the holding cell for a few more moments before Mousesack came down, this whole story would be completely different!

    Mages Don’t Mess Around

Yennefer oh Yennefer. You want what you can’t have. She’s constantly telling everyone off and doing whatever her heart desires until her heart really desires. This time she looks for an old friend, Istredd, whom she met in the cave in episode 2. He is out uncovering ancient monoliths and what not. Doing cool stuff, when along comes Yennefer to ruin his day.

After decades, she not realizes that she wants him and to live a halfway normal life. However, he waited, and he waited long enough. He’s out of the picture and Yennefer is left alone. Thank goodness for spying Mages though!

After a short whispery talk, Yennefer is told that Tissaia has sent for her. Taking the bait, Yennefer bites and returns to where she trained to become a mage, only to discover she had been lied to. The Mages call a council to discuss Nilfgaard and their empire. Only Tissaia and a few others oppose their evil and want to help Cintra.

Though it is voted against, Tissaia confides in Yennefer that she and a few others are going to fight anyway. Though Cintra is big-headed and believes they can do whatever they want, they need help. Although they agree to fight, it’s hard to tell their overall impact on the battle, as we’ve already seen Cintra fall. Were they too late or was there a sudden change of heart?

Ciri’s Power – Total Possession Takeover

We get to witness more of Ciri’s extraordinary powers in this episode as well. Not only her ability to steal a horse from the nicest lady on the continent but her actual magical powers! After she steals a horse, Clip or Clop, we’re not sure, we see her hiding in a marshland. She builds a fire to stay warm at night as a thick fog comes over.

A friend from Cintra approaches and even tells her that it’s okay, they’re Cintrans. However, they’re really just dirtbags who want to rob the princess and be jerks. One of the boys is the same boy she used to play games with, now though he’s bitter at her family’s actions and they throw her around.

It isn’t until the last 20 seconds we see her full power come into effect, and boy, what happened? She seemingly becomes possessed and begins speaking with a loud, thunderous voice that echoes as she recites something. The wind begins swirling around and the horse is losing his mind. What happens? Cut to black, episode credits. Oh boy, I cannot wait to watch the final episode of the season to see what happens there! Are you excited for the final episode of the season? Join me in just a little bit to close out the first season of The Witcher!
