Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’: Episode Eight Review: Destiny Convenes & A Magical Battle

Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ spoilers find that today is the day we’ve been waiting for! The release of Netflix’s The Witcher is here. It has already been nothing short of glorious. In the final episode of the season, Geralt & Ciri meet, the mages put up an epic defense against Nilfgaard and we hear about Vesemir!

The final episode was nothing short of amazing, the battle of Sodden between the mages and Nilfgaard was spectacular and we got to see Yennefer let loose her powers. Geralt battles off creatures to save a traveling merchant and destiny comes together at last. It was very eventful and gave us plenty of amazing moments and feelings!

Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’: The Final Episode Of Season One

Well, when do we get a season two? After episode seven we were left wondering what Ciri had done. Turns out, she used her powers to mess up not only her would-be attackers but the poor horse as well. We’re still not entirely sure what she summoned or did, but we know it was extremely effective.

The woman whom she met in the village and stole the horse from is literally the sweetest woman in the world. After what Ciri did, she still welcomed her into her home with open arms. Though, this is probably just destiny at play. It is through this encounter that ultimately leads Ciri to find Geralt, outside the woman and traveling merchants home in the woods. The final scene was emotional and excellently captured on screen. We were left with only one question from Ciri. “Who’s Yennefer?”. This will surely open up an entire can of worms for season two.

    Epic Mage Battle

Tissaia, Vilgefortz, Yennefer, Sabrina and about twenty others take matters into their own hands to fend off Nilfgaard. They know that to take over the north, Nilfgaard must go through Sodden. Together, they go and prepare, awaiting reinforcements from the very king that Geralt protected from the striga a few episodes back!

What takes place over the next day is incredible. A true display of magic and spirit. Together the mages fend off several attacks from the Nilfgaards and their mage who has lusted for power now instead of what’s right. They put up a hell of a fight, but the Nilfgaard army is too great. They breach the walls and kill nearly everyone! It is only at this moment that Tissaia tells Yennefer to break the bottle, and let her chaos reign. Oh man, does her chaos reign! She pours the landscape with decimating fire, eliminating nearly every Nilfgaardian that still resides.

Tissaia appears to still live, though now Yennefer is gone. Has she killed herself with her own power as we have seen mages do before? I’m sure we will see her again in season two, but the question remains, where is she?

    Vesemir! Possible Mark Hamill Role?

We get the first mention of Vesemir in this season finale as well. Vesemir is the father figure of Geralt. He took him in, trained him and claimed him one of his own. This is a very important role and many have fan cast Mark Hamill as the Vesemir. Fanart of the possible image has gone around and I will say it is damn near perfect! Better yet, Mark Hamill himself on Twitter said he would be open for the role if given the chance. This could be a match made in heaven for fans of The Witcher and Mark Hamill himself!

What did you think of the first season of The Witcher? Though we aren’t sure about when the second season comes out, it is reported that a third season has already been greenlit by Netflix! Here’s to at least two more seasons of this amazing show.
