El Sultán spoilers reveal there is a major change afoot. As we mentioned in a previous article, Telemundo’s schedule shifted on Monday, December 23rd. But that left our Sultan in a strange position. Here’s what fans need to know.
El Sultán spoilers: Out in the cold
It seems the series has not been performing up to Telemundo’s expectations. Either that, or they were using it as a place holder until other things they believe will be more successful were ready. Why? Because of the scheduling shift. Decisiones: Unos ganan, otros pierden (Decisions: Some win, others lose) took over the 8 PM slot Monday. That was followed by a special edition of La Doña’s first season at 9 PM. El Señor del Los Cielos (Lord of the Skies) should keep its slot until the season finale, when we expect Operación Pacífico to take over. Promos for the series say that’s starting in January. This all leaves El Sultán without a home. So, what will fans need to know to keep seeing the show?
El Sultán spoilers: Check the DVR
El Sultán will take over a new time slot. Saturday, December 28th the show will move to 3 AM, where they’ll air two episodes. On Sundays, the series gets an hour and a half. We’re expecting that day to be two episodes cut into one. At least, for now. There’s precedent here.
El Sultán spoilers: Old story
When the novela Guerra de Idolos (War of Idols) didn’t get the ratings expected, it was also moved to a weekend timeslot, although at a far more reasonable hour. Shortly after the move happened, the show disappeared from the schedule all together. It’s not a surprise. Viewers get used to a show being at a certain time, so when it moves suddenly with little or no promotion, it can be jarring to viewers. After all, we all fall into habit, right? With several more seasons of the show already done (El Sultán originated in Turkey n 2011), we can’t help but wonder how much Telemundo will show viewers. So far, we’ve been off and on with this series. Meryem Uzerli as Hürrem Sultan is definitely the strongest link on the show. While there are a couple of interesting elements coming into play last week, it hasn’t been as gripping as some of the other shows out there. With networks being more impatient than ever, there’s not a lot of time to grab and build an audience. Looks like this show might have learned that here, despite its success elsewhere.
