Even at the lower end of the talk, anything can happen in real life in a year. Forget about the insanity that can take place in a soap.
To prove the point, let’s look at what’s happened since Jack’s New Years’ return. He married Eve and became Mayor. He also hired, then promptly fired her before they ended up in divorce court. He also got his memories back unexpectedly and is now engaged to Jennifer Horton (Melissa Reeves). Talk about a massive shift. Plus, numerous other characters have come back from the dead in that time, along with rapid life changes for Gabi DiMera (Camila Banus). Literally anyone would be fair game in this scenario, as well as any couple currently at the forefront.

As for a time frame, reports are suggesting that this jump is going to happen very soon. Like, likely in the next couple of weeks. It would make sense this move, which is billed to be a daytime first, would happen now. It’s the crucial sweeps period, a time when shows are looking for big ratings to draw in advertising dollars. In a climate where soaps in general are struggling, and Days has been near the bottom of the four, this is crucial.

It seems like that time jump might not be the only change coming. There are also rumors of a “just a dream” type of situation on the way, leaving the writers able to get rid of plot lines that aren’t working and start over. But that’s not all.
The latest buzz is that the #Stabi situation might be a big catalyst for a change, production-wise. Talk suggests that a long haitus is coming for the actors, allowing the shoot-to-air gap to shorten significantly. ‘Days’ is known to shoot far ahead, as we were seeing screen grabs of Gabi and Stefan DiMera (Brandon Barash) being attacked by Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) long before it ever happened. In that time, fans were already blowing up Twitter with not only their love for the pairing, but their worries about the leaked exit of Barash.
Fans were angry that such a great pairing with such potential was going to end before it really even got started. This is said to be a way for the writers to be able to respond to such feedback earlier, rather than get a big surprise after the deed is done. It will also help keep the suspense going, as we won’t be seeing scene stills leaked up to six months before the episode airs. There’s also less opportunity to tune out for a while, knowing what’s coming, something we’re sure the writers and the rest of the team would prefer not to happen.

With the huge response to #Stabi, and the mixed fan reaction to a bunch of the other story lines going on, this is a chance for the writers to put some of these things aside, particularly if the dream angle happens. It would also help make sense of some of the more non-sensical plots of late, like the continuous influx of the former dead.
We personally wouldn’t mind seeing a lot of the Kristen angle go away, too. We adore her snarky nature, but the lengths she went to for a man who didn’t really want her was embarrassing and beneath a villain. Whatever they end up doing, expect a wild ride coming soon.
