‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers have everyone asking the same question: what’s in store for Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) now that they know their newest addition will be born with a serious medical condition called spina bifida? Needless to say, both will be given a new set of challenges once their newborn arrives. But is this something they will be able to handle? Or will the pressure cause a crack in their relationship? Here’s what you need to know.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Sonny & Carly Hit Troubled Waters, Relationship To Be Tested Like Never Before!
Caring for a newborn is never easy, but caring for a newborn with a serious medical condition is definitely no walk in the park. Dr. Brad Dicianno, an Associate Medical Director and Chair of the Professional Council of the Spina Bifida Association explains it this way to ABC Soaps in Depth, “Spina bfida literally means split spine. If the spinal cord doesn’t fully form a tube when the embryo is developing, the spine will not be completely closed. Where that defect is determines what impairments the baby might have.”
Dr. Dicianno also noted, “There would be less potential for weakness in the legs, which could affect the baby’s development and ability to walk later. There is also less chance for loss of sensation to the skin or problems with bladder and bowel function. The lesion’s location can affect how extensive the problems would be.”
Seeing how both Sonny and Carly have gone through a lot in their lives already, we have a feeling that this is definitely going to test their relationship like they’ve never experienced before. It’s without a doubt that Sonny will continue to remain by Carly’s side as they navigate this new chapter in their lives together. At least, that’s our hope! Fans will certainly have to tune in to find out what will happen next!
