Days of Our Lives spoilers relate that a lot of soap fans can’t help but ask the same question over and over again: why is it that Days of Our Lives is always at the bottom of the ratings race compared to other daytime television shows? And why doesn’t the NBC network do more to help promote the soap?

As a matter of fact, Christine Fix of Soaps.com has looked into the issue and believes that there are several reasons why Days of Our Lives loses viewership on almost a weekly basis. Even though fans love many of the actors and the storylines, she admits that there are several key issues that are the reason why Days is always on the bottom of the ratings war, as compared to General Hospital, The Young and the Restless and the Bold and the Beautiful.
One of the biggest issues is the lack of budget for Days. She also points out that unlike the other soaps, Days of Our Live tapes six months in advance. This means that if a character of a storyline isn’t working, many viewers tune out. Also, because the material is taped so well in advance, many spoilers come out before they should, too.
If that weren’t enough, she also says that, “giving away too much of the storyline including casting changes in advance means there’s no element of surprise and fans can decide when to tune out,” and “recycled plots happen way too often, are repeats from other soap operas, and produce boredom, lessen the impact on dramatic scenes.”
Then again, these are issues that occur all across the board when it comes to daytime television. However, Christine Fix also says that the number one reason why fans change the channel is because it’s hard for viewers to learn the history of each character along with their backstories. Soap fans want to get to know their favorite characters and not just watch them in action.
