The recently launched Machine Gun Kelly Razor Blade signature guitar by Schecter Guitars is facing widespread criticism online, as detractors argue that its razor blade design may encourage self-harm among impressionable youth.
The backlash centers on the association of razor blades with deliberate self-harm, a practice that raises concerns, particularly due to the prevailing stereotype linking fans of pop-punk/emo rock to such behaviors. Machine Gun Kelly’s affiliation with these genres adds another layer to the controversy.
The negative reception is evident on Schecter Guitars’ Instagram post announcing the new MGK signature guitar, with a barrage of unfavorable comments labeling it as the company’s worst offering. Some upset users wrote, “Firstly, TRIGGER WARNING!! secondly, WTF!! And thirdly, i thought only guitar players get signatures, wtf is this!?”, and “ah yes, i love promoting self harm to a young impressionable audience!! great job mgk and schecter! y’all really knocked it out of the park here.”

Rapper/Actor Machine Gun Kelly Gets Ripped Apart Online For His New ‘Razor Blade’ Guitar
During a recent performance, Machine Gun Kelly explained that the guitar serves as an homage to his album “Tickets To My Downfall” and a reflection on his tumultuous 20s. However, critics argue that even if indirectly, the design promotes cutting.
In response to the criticism, Machine Gun Kelly has expressed reluctance to explain his art on Twitter, stating “i’ll never explain my art, because true art is conversational and always up for interpretation, but i will say, most of you constantly interpret it wrong. and then blame me for your version of what you think my art is. ultimately im sad at how people perceive me in general. peace.”
Originally listed at $2,169, the Machine Gun Kelly Razor Blade guitar has seen a significant reduction to $1,499, a $700 price slash. This negative feedback contrasts with MGK’s first signature guitar from Schecter, the Machine Gun Kelly Signature Pink PT Electric Guitar, which did not generate as much controversy.
