According to a source who spoke to People magazine, Will Smith is feeling regretful about physically hitting Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars and has attempted to apologize to him without success.

The world was stunned when the actor slapped Rock during a performance, following a joke made about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head. On a new Netflix show called Selective Outrage, Rock spoke about the incident as well as addressed his thoughts on Will and Jada’s relationship.
With that being said, Smith tried unsuccessfully to try and change things. A source confirmed the following: “He’s tried unsuccessfully to make amends in the best way he could with Chris. But beyond that, family is important to him and [Smith] leaned on them. It all has helped him look inside and mature. He is better but still remorseful.”
Rock responded to Smith’s ban from the Academy by making fun of him and his wife during the show. He specifically mentioned Smith’s decision to slap him on stage and joked about Pinkett Smith’s unfaithfulness. And in the process of doing so, he mocked Smith by comparing him to none other than Suge Knight, who is currently in jail for manslaughter.
Rock’s following comments confirmed as much: “You all know what happened to me, getting smacked by Suge Smith. It still hurts. I got ‘Summertime’ ringing in my ears.” The response on social media was very clear. Large numbers of people questioned Will’s motives for his apology since he did not make the apology at the time of the incident.
One person wrote: “Will did not really try to apologize. Grandstanding an apology on social media for the world to see doesn’t equal an apology. When Rock said he didn’t want to hear from Will, Will proceeded to go ahead with another public statement.”
