According to a source, Will Smith has yet to offer a personal apology in person to Chris Rock for the 2022 Oscars incident where Smith slapped Rock, even after almost a year has passed.\
Will Smith Hasn’t Apologized In Person To Chris Rock-‘Chris Isn’t Expecting It’
Reports indicate that the chances of the two reconciling are even slimmer. Smith expressed regret twice on Instagram for the incident that occurred. Firstly, he issued a statement and secondly, he posted a video. And yet, this has not transpired to an apology happening in person.
A source said: “Will did call Chris last year after the Oscars, but Chris didn’t pick up. And they haven’t spoken since…Will’s two public apologies were all about saving his own reputation. Will has not apologized to Chris Rock in person — and Chris isn’t expecting it.”
Having expressed himself in his live special, Rock is now prepared to move forward and leave the matter behind. After Smith was banned from the Academy, Rock ridiculed him and his spouse during his show, ‘Selective Outrage,’ as a response. Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s infidelity and referenced the incident where Smith slapped him on stage.
Moreover, Rock compared Smith to Suge Knight, who is serving jail time for manslaughter, while mocking him. In his comments at the time, Rock remarked: “You all know what happened to me, getting smacked by Suge Smith. It still hurts. I got ‘Summertime’ ringing in my ears.”
The fans on social media made their position very clear. A certain subset of people were of the view that Smith was showing a lack of remorse by not doing more in order to get in touch with Rock personally. And in response, the comments were scathing.
One person wrote: “I always thought Will Smith was an egotistical self centered person. Even back in the 80s.” So there you have it folks. What did you think about this?
