Immigration professionals have cautioned that Prince Harry, 38, may be forbidden from entering the United States and has put his visa status in jeopardy after he confessed to experimenting with illicit drugs in his upcoming memoir.
Prince Harry’s US Visa Could Get Cancelled After Admitting Drug Usage
Generally, individuals can be refused a visa due to any prior involvement with illegal drugs, but the US government has stated that each situation will be assessed on an individual basis.
It is not known whether Harry, who shifted revealed his drug usage on his visa application. Immigration professionals warned that if he misrepresented his background, the Duke could have his visa cancelled.
In his memoir ‘Spare’, Harry divulged that he first ingested cocaine during a shooting weekend when he was 17. He also confessed to seeing visions at a celebrity-filled bash in California and to smoking weed following his inaugural date with Meghan.
With that being said, Harry could have something to answer for. Alberto Benítez, who happens to be a professor, had this to say: “He would have been asked [about drug use]. If he was truthful in his answers, he should have been denied.”
He also asserted that if Harry had not been candid about his drug intake, he would have been guilty of making a false statement on an official US government form. He maintained it would have been to his benefit to be truthful and observed that, owing to his regal status, he might have been given leniency by immigration officers.
His following comments confirmed as much: “If he wasn’t Prince Harry, if was ‘Fred Jones’ and he had this kind of a background, he’d have a lot more scrutiny and I could certainly see the green card being denied.” Time will tell how this will play out moving forward in the future.
