On Tuesday, 27th December 2022, Whoopi Goldberg publicly expressed regret for affirming her position during a recent interview that the Holocaust was not based on race, which generated criticism and demands for ABC to dismiss her from The View.
Whoopi Goldberg Apologises For Her Controversial Holocaust Comments-‘My Sincere Apologies Again’
In February, the Academy Award-winning performer was suspended from The View following her statement that the Holocaust did not involve race, but instead was a result of ‘white on white’ hostility and ‘man’s inhumanity to man.’
Despite the uproar created by her initial statement – and her subsequent apology – Goldberg once again declared her contentious remarks when it was mentioned that the Nazis had a racial motive behind the Holocaust.
The pressure has been mounting lately, as individuals have been pushing for ABC to terminate the co-host. With that being said, Goldberg issued an apology. In her comments, she said: “I believe that the Holocaust was about race, and I am still as sorry now as I was then that I upset, hurt and angered people.
“My sincere apologies again, especially to everyone who thought this was a fresh rehash of the subject.” Despite this being the case, it appears as though the damage has already been done. So much so that the calls to have her off the air have only continued since then.
Arsen Ostrovsky, who happens to be a human rights lawyer, had this to say: “So, after supposed ‘apology’ earlier in year, Whoopi Goldberg doubles down on her vile remarks that the Holocaust was not about race, and instead ‘white on white’ violence. Someone get this ignorant fool off the air.”
The social media response was damning. Large numbers of people demanded that Whoopi be held accountable by ensuring that some action is taken against her. One person wrote: “What do you need to do to be sacked? Outrageous.”
