‘Welcome to Plathville’ Spoilers reveal that The Plaths seem to be overreacting about Lydia texting her crush. They acted like she had been caught sneaking out of the house with him, not simply texting. Now, they didn’t really elaborate on what the content of the conversation was but it’s Lydia Plath for crying out loud chances are it’s not going to be that bad, unless she’s started texting the boy passages from Song of Solomon or something.
(I highly doubt it.) Still, you couldn’t help but feel sorry for her as she was standing in that field singing her heart out crying out to God.
‘Welcome to Plathville’: Was what Lydia did really that bad?
Certainly Kim and Barry realize what their strict expectations are doing to this poor girl, right? She’s questioning her existence as a teenager and while I get that neither Kim nor Barry want her to move too fast in a relationship, they also have to realize that she has to live and she can’t be perfect – even though she tries.
Barry, at first seemed okay with getting the boy down to Georgia for a visit, but now that she’s ‘broken their trust’ it seems that he wants her to hit the pause button again on the relationship, so there’s no telling when or even if she’ll get her visit now. Tell me you don’t want the kids to see each other without telling me you don’t want the kids to see each other, geeze.
That being said, Barry seems a lot less alarmed than Kim is about this whole thing. Barry was initially open to Lydia having a visit from her friend, but as soon as Kim expressed any type of concern (and Kim was the one expressing concern, not Barry) then he immediately snatched any chance of them seeing each other away.
At this point they just need to come out and tell Lydia that they aren’t comfortable with her dating until she either graduates high school or moves out of the house. I don’t know how they expect her to move out because they don’t value higher education so it’s not like they’re waiting on her to date a ‘college man’, in fact they would prefer that she didn’t.
So how on earth do they expect Lydia to find anyone to even look at if they don’t facilitate it in some way? Poor Lydia needs to find her wings, and fast. Stay tuned!!!
