‘Welcome to Plathville’ Spoilers reveal that next week, the Plaths are finally, finally, going to talk about their son Joshua and what happened to him. Joshua Plath was born in 2007, and apparently they had an accident in 2008 and lost him.

It’s been said that Kim accidentally hit him with their car in the driveway at the farm. The last Plath sibling to know anything about Joshua probably would have been Isaac. No doubt Moriah, Lydia, Ethan, and Hosanna remember him, but the little girls, Amber, Cassia, and Mercy, probably don’t or weren’t even born yet. One of the smaller ones literally asked, “How did Joshua die?” as if the information that he was gone was simply brand new to her.

That says a lot about how Kim and Barry Plath deal with grief in the household. The way Kim mentioned his death though, even though she expressed regret, she really had a very oddly detached way of talking about it. Almost like there was no real emotion attached to it.

Now, that is not to say that there isn’t, and maybe she was just hiding it so that the little kids wouldn’t see and get upset becaus hey, Moms do that from time to time. I still don’t see how mine didn’t lose it every time we lost a childhood pet.

(She said she did, but she just didn’t show it in front of me for the longest time.) I can’t imagine what it would be like, feeling like you had to hold in the grief for your child.

Barry suggested that they all go the cemetery and visit Joshua’s grave. Kim seemed to be open to the idea, but again, she seems so oddly detached about the whole thing. I wonder if we’ll get to see some emotion from her next week when they visit.

Now, keep in mind, I’m not a big fan of tears, but I’ve always suspected that Joshua’s death may be something that Kim has never worked through and actually needs to grieve over. Maybe his death is the reason she holds the rest of her kids so close, because she knows what it’s like to actually lose one. That’s just speculation, but we’re all interested to see where this goes. Stay tuned!!!
