‘Welcome to Plathville’ Spoilers indicate that Ethan and Olivia were doing good in their relationship the last time we saw them at the end of season two. Even though Ethan had essentially said goodbye to his family for her, he had grasped her hand, told her he loved her, and they had vowed right then and there that they only had each other.
You could tell it broke both of their hearts to say that, but, there was nothing more that could have been done. When we meet them in season 3, six months later… something has changed between them.
‘Welcome to Plathville’: Ethan is not good at talking
Olivia said that he had become a much more angry person, and she had started going to therapy and that it helped her. However, Olivia is a very verbal person, Ethan is not. Ethan said that he actually did try therapy, but he said it didn’t really help him all that much.
Anyone who’s tried to find a good therapist knows that it is hard and sometimes it just can’t be done. The good thing is, Ethan doesn’t seem to have any particularly debilitating psychological issues, he just has some emotional baggage that he needs to sort through. He says talking doesn’t help him, rather, he likes to go out and tinker with cars or work with his hands in order to think things through and process what’s going on in his head.
When Olivia returned from work, she asked him, “Is everything okay? Do you want to talk about it?” but Ethan doesn’t want to talk about it, verbiage seems to fail him. However, he did say that when he thinks about the fact that he had to give up his relationship with his siblings for his marriage that it pisses him off to no end, and that he’s very angry at his parents.
He thinks that his Mom, Kim, just wanted he and Olivia to bend to her will and do whatever she wanted them to do rather than live their own life – and I think that’s a pretty fair assessment. So now the two are packing up and renting a house for a year in Tallahassee.
The thing is, Barry, Ethan’s Dad, works in Tallahassee so chances are they still might bump into him from time to time, but Olivia says that for the health of their marriage that it is high time that they got out of Cairo, Georgia and had a chance of scenery. But will that be enough to heal their marriage?
The only thing I’m afraid of is that Barry Plath might stalk them, remember how he did when Moriah was working at the gym? They might think they’re rid of Pa Plath but they might never actually be rid of Pa Plath. Yike! Well, we’ll see I suppose. Stay tuned!!!
