Let’s not pretend that this surprises any of us at all. There’s a new report that says White House press secretary Jen Psaki is about to bid the Biden administration adios for a new job at MSNBC in the coming weeks. Here’s what you need to know.
After serving as White House press secretary for more than a year, Jen Psaki will leave the Biden administration for MSNBC, where she will serve as a host and on-air expert. Psaki has held near-daily briefings since the start of the Joe Biden presidency.

A White House official declined to confirm Psaki’s future plans. But the official said, “Jen is here and working hard every day on behalf of the President to get you the answers to the questions that you have, and that’s where her focus is.”
However, Psaki declared that “cable news is dying” and that its “ratings are dwindling” just last month. She made the remarks during an interview with actor Rob Lowe on his podcast on Feb. 18.
“So I’m going to give you an optimistic view on this right now, which is — cable news is dying, right?” Psaki told Lowe on his podcast, “Literally! With Rob Lowe.” “The ratings are dwindling, right? And there’s dwindling readership as well of a lot of national newspapers.”
Psaki said she hoped that streaming news platforms instead would come in to replace cable TV news with “a form for creating a range of content that is informative” rather than just having “Democrats and Republicans yelling at each other on a set.”
Psaki has not officially signed a contract with the progressive cable news network, but the talks are in the advanced stages. It’s not clear who will replace Psaki when she does step down.
